Bio Rad Block failure # 5

Hello,

Does anyone have any insight  into the cause, or repair protocol for this problem.

I would like to repair it myself.

Thank you

Hi MAJ,

Without knowing what the issue is with your machine. I have just repaired a unit. As BioRad don't support these anymore it is tricky to get support from BioRad. But it you ask nicely they might oblige if you can show you have the electronic skills to repair yourself.

My unit was dead. Only sign of life was a little red LED on the main board, which indicates basically it is getting the mains voltage. My problem was with the stand by circuit. There is a group of caps 100uF 25V on the board that were all reading different values according to my ESR meter and one in particular was 100 times what it should be. Meaning that it has dried out and was not functioning anymore. Replacing just that single cap and presto it all sprang back to life and all the logic board voltages returned.

I'd replace all the other 100uF 25V caps just to be sure too before reassemble as this unit takes a fair effort to get into.

Hope this helps
