Lab tech applied too much vacuum grease to the point where I had to clean the 1/4" thick mess from the underside of the door.  Now the centrifuge displays a diagnostic error "slow to vacuum" A401.  Meaning it pulls vacuum with right rotor, just cannot get down to set point.  Checked vacuum pump, works.  Replaced HEPA filter and tubing. Still same error.  Swapped vacuum pump for comparable one. Still same error message.

Diffusion pump next?

Sarah, It sounds like you are still fighting the vacuum grease issue. If that much grease was applied then unless you physically remove the chamber door, which requires taking the top plate off the chamber, you will not get all of the grease that may still be preventing the door from seating and sealing properly. Removal of the top plate requires retorqing the chamber bolts to the proper specification so be prepared. I will be waiting to hear from you if you still need more help. Don

Removed door, cleaned it.  Worked with colleague who apparently did not know about retorquing either.

How does one retorque the chamber bolts?

What are the specs?

Special tool needed?

Thanks,

Sarah
