SSL injector and packed column

Hi all,

i tried to install a packed column to my Split-Splitless injector using Agilent's adapter kit 19243-80510. I have used 5080-8774 ferrule and the appropriate nut to connect the adapter on the injector body. The problem is that although the ferrule fits great in the adapter, it is not fitting on the injector. The cone is not going in the body but it is only touching it causing a leak.I tried to use a file but i had no luck. Do you have any suggestions?

Thank you

avatar placemark Hi Dan,

thank you for your reply. This is probably the reason i can not fit the adapter into the SSL injector. It seems like there is an extra thread in its base body.

I have checked Restek's 20645 and i will try it.

Thanks again

Dim D,

The fitting you listed (19243-80510) is used in a 1/4" PACKED inlet to adapt it for 1/8" columns. You need a fitting to adapt a S/SL inlet for 1/8In packed columns. Restek sells this fitting (#20645) that can be used to adapt the S/SL inlet for 1/8" packed columns. This cannot be used with glass columns easily as there is not enough play in the column to make both the detector and inlet connections. However, it can be used for metal packed columns. You cannot program the EPC pneumatics for this configuration but you can set it for fixed pressure and get good results.

Agilent 6890N GC

The Agilent 6890N is a state-of-theart gas chromatograph that provides superior performance for all applications. Key to its performance is the use of advanced electronic pneumatic control (EPC) modules and high performance temperature control. Each EPC unit is optimized for its intended use with a specific inlet and detector option. Temperature control of the 6890N oven allows for fast and precise temperature ramping. Overall thermal performance provides optimal chromatography including peak symmetry, retention time repeatability, and retention index accuracy. The combination of precise pneumatic control and accurate temperature control leads to outstanding retention time repeatability, the basis for all chromatographic measurement. A full array of traditional gas sampling and column switching valves are available. A new highperformance inert pneumatic switching manifold is available for a number of advanced chromatographic applications (2-D heart cutting, detector splitting, etc). Agilent GC systems are known for their reliability, ruggedness, and long life. The Agilent 10-year use guarantee provides greater assurance for a low-cost of ownership throughout its life.            Discontinued            The Agilent 6890N GC has been obsoleted. This includes the G1530N, G1530N-EU, G1540N, and G1942N mainframes and all associated options. Agilent will provide guaranteed support for these products through July 31, 2015. Accessories for your 6890N GC can still be ordered.            The 7890A GC system is the latest gas chromatograph from Agilent and is the replacement product for the 6890N.
