The Hydro Sight™ is a revolutionary accessory for the Mastersizer range of instruments providing rapid visualization and assessment of your liquid particle dispersion during a measurement.

Real-time observation of the particles in the laser diffraction measurement flow allows improved understanding of how stirring and sonication or the addition of surfactants and stabilizers affect your dispersion. One-click capture of dispersion images/videos and dispersion metrics provides quick and effective supporting evidence for troubleshooting measurements and validation of methods according to ISO 13320:2009, USP and similar standards.

Features of Hydro Sight
  • Visualize your particles
  • Observe and understand dispersion trends
  • Automatically detect unusual particles
  • Evaluate particle size and shape
  • Quickly validate methods

How IT Works

The Hydro Sight is designed to be used with the Mastersizer instrument range with a recirculating liquid dispersion accessory, such as the Hydro MV, Hydro LV, Hydro EV or Hydro SM accessories provided with the Mastersizer 3000.

Connect the accessory

The Hydro Sight is easily installed by connecting it in-line between the laser diffraction dispersion accessory and measurement cell. It captures images of the sample dispersion flowing through a specially designed imaging cell using lens-less* dynamic imaging technology. No focusing or calibration by the user is required during routine operation.

Observe and analyze

A stand-alone software package provides image capture and data analysis options with a simple user friendly interface. Image frames are continuously displayed and analyzed during a laser diffraction measurement, with options to save images and follow specific events. Particle size and particle elongation distributions are updated continuously and a Dispersion Index* trend plot constantly monitors the state of dispersion. Image frames displaying anomalous particles can be automatically captured, assisting with trouble-shooting.

Quickly validate methods

A validated particle sizing method provides security and reassurance that your measurements are robust, repeatable and meaningful. To help you achieve this the Hydro Sight provides rapid, simultaneous visual evidence and supporting data to allow you to arrive at the optimum method in the shortest amount of time. It represents a valuable investment for anybody who regularly needs to develop and validate new methods.

Easy maintenance and cleaning

The Hydro Sight is chemically compatible with a wide range of aqueous and non-aqueous dispersants, and is designed for minimal maintenance under normal operation. The imaging flow cell takes advantage of the clean cycle during your laser diffraction measurements and should not require any extra intervention during routine operation. The cell can be easily accessed for cleaning if contamination is observed on the cell windows.
