UV-Vis Spectroscopy

Maintaining the highest level of wavelength resolution in its class (1 nm), Shimadzu's latest UV-VIS spectrophotometer, the UV-1800, can function as a standalone instrument or can be PC-controlled with USB memory.

UVProbe data processing software now comes standard so users can drag and drop data from an optional USB memory stick onto a PC. The USB interface gives users the advantage of macros and graph functions available with commercial spreadsheet software to reduce effort and enhance efficiency. USB memory saves spectral data, quantitation values and measurement parameters. In addition, it saves parameter settings so multiple users can share one instrument.

With the UV-1800, stray light and noise levels are reduced. Shimadzu's LO-RAY-LIGHT low stray light diffraction grating restricts stray light to half that of the UV-1700. A brighter optical system reduces the noise level (at 700 nm) to 25 percent of the previous model.

Multiple modes, including photometric, spectrum, quantitation, kinetics, time-scan, multi-component quantitation and biomethod, come standard on the UV-1800. The UV-1800 also offers automated security, and enhanced instrument validation and maintenance functions.

The new design includes a 15-percent smaller footprint (45 cm W x 49 cm D) than its predecessor for placement close to other equipment; fewer keys that are spaced farther apart for trouble-free operation; and three display screens — parameter settings, progress status and results display — for clear information and ease of use.

Features of UV-1800

High resolution – 1 nm

Featuring the highest resolution in its class*, the UV-1800 easily satisfies the standards of wavelength resolution demanded by the European Pharmacopoeia. Additionally, using a spectroscope with a Czerny-Turner mounting results in a compact, bright optical system. Stray light, wavelength repeatability and baseline stability have also been advanced to meet user requirements.

Compact

Only 450 mm wide, the UV-1800 is one of the most compact instruments in its class, allowing installation in tight spaces. In comparison to the UV-1700, the setting space has decreased by about 15%, and the width has narrowed by about 20%.

User friendly

USB memory can be connected directly to the UV-1800. Users can now analyze data on a PC using UVProbe software. In addition, data for spectra and time-course curves can be displayed and saved with commercial spreadsheet software. Printing is possible to printers that support PCL control codes. e.g. HP Business Inkjet 1200 HP Photosmart D5160 Using UVProbe software, provided standard with this instrument, makes it possible to control the UV-1800 with a PC. (A USB cable is required for connection to the PC.)

Security functions

Enabling the UV-1800 security functions makes it possible to restrict functions according to the user level.

Instrument validation functions:

The UV-1800 offers compatibility with 9 JIS items. Wavelength accuracy, wavelength repeatability, resolution, stray light, photometric accuracy, photometric repeatability, baseline flatness, baseline stability, noise level.

Maintenance

The operating time of the deuterium (D2) lamp and the halogen (WI) lamp can be recorded and displayed. Consequently, the expected replacement period of the lamps can be ascertained when performing periodic inspections, minimizing downtime.
